ABOUT US
PASSION FOR FITNESS
I’m Ed Kerry, owner and founder of GL52 fitness, a new and innovative gym based in Bishops Cleeve. GL52 was created out of my passion for fitness and ability to create a sense of community. I believe GL52 will make training accessible to all. People lead incredibly stressful lives and are predominantly time poor. With this in mind, I wanted to create a positive space that provides excellent training for all fitness levels.
MY BACKGROUND
Growing up on my family farm in Norfolk, I wanted to break the mould and follow the suit of my brother who joined the army. Having seen my brother travel all over the world, this led me to join the Airforce at 18. Leading a successful 9 year career as a fireman, I gained a multitude of skills that money simply cannot buy. The Airforce has taught me the importance of being adaptable, personable and professional. These skills along with quick-thinking and timekeeping will help in the launch of my very own gym, GL52.
I left the military in search of a new challenge which came in the shape of a career as a PT and eventually with British Military Fitness. The sense of comradery is something I missed within the fitness industry and British Military Fitness gave me that feeling. Although you get the one on one contact with your clients you don’t have colleagues and this can make the fitness industry feel lonely. I overcame the feeling of loneliness through the positive attitudes and family feel presented by British Military Fitness. This second family is what’s sparked a real need to create a gym fueled by community.
Something you may not know about me is that I am in fact an endurance athlete. I have completed the 2015 Marathon Des Sables coming 21st overall out of 1500 and the 2nd Brit to finish. The races don’t stop there, I have competed in numerous different endurance events.
Everyone needs a release and mine is running. As much as I am a lover of community, family and comradeship, I do enjoy my own company and believe it’s important to take time for yourself to do something you truly enjoy. No matter what happened in my life, running created consistency and created a space for me to do some uninterrupted thinking.

Within the fitness industry you meet a wide breadth of people who have faced a variety of challenges. The lack of confidence seen within some clients and the need for change is something I can help with. I feel it’s important to take clients on a journey which isn’t always a weight loss one, it can be a weight gain journey. Empathy is a skill that separates myself from other PTs, I’m passionate about each of my clients rehabilitation, confidence and self discovery journey. As a client you can feel at ease within my company.
CHALLENGES
This idea of needing a new challenge is deep rooted in me since leaving the Airforce, so as my running improved and the distance became longer the challenges became harder. I’m someone who pours my heart and soul into everything I do and when it comes to being an endurance athlete, my mindset is the same.
Many of my endurance races have been in support of my chosen charity, Brain Tumour Trust. I’m extremely passionate about giving back to charity especially since my sister passed away suddenly at the age of 34.
When I turned 34 I wanted to do my greatest challenge yet in celebration of my sister’s life. I set up a challenge which was 1100 miles over 3 weeks, running a double marathon each day raising £36,500 for the Brain Tumour Trust. Unfortunately on the 5th day I suffered from compartment syndrome meaning I couldn’t complete the challenge by foot. I did persevere by completing the challenge on a bike however it is something I am looking at tackling again by foot in the future.

PERSONAL TRAINING
In recent years, I have been working for Matt Roberts evolution in London, Matt is the first person to ever bring the personal training gym to the UK. Being a personal trainer I saw an opportunity to develop my skills and learn from the launch of Matt’s Mayfair gym and implement this knowledge into GL52.
I’m a highly qualified personal trainer with a huge drive to create the best gym in Gloucestershire. Opening GL52 is a new challenge and one which I’m extremely passionate about. The gym will be a welcoming, family friendly environment with a variety of membership options and classes. With a child of my own, I know the importance of being able to bring your children to the gym so you can have some time to yourself knowing they’re safe, happy and healthy.
To book a one-to-one PT session with me, please get in touch and join the GL52 community.
